With the purchase of the PTA plant in Wilton from Advansa, La Seda de Barcelona also acquired the rights to operate the MegaPTA technology of Invista for Europe, the countries of the former USSR, Africa and the Middle East.
In 2006, La Seda de Barcelona took the decision to install a PTA plant in Sines (Portugal) a plant with a strategic location, close to the port, which gives access to the Western African coast, the whole of the Mediterranean arc and the western coast of Europe, including the United Kingdom.
The new Artenius Sines plant is expected to be started up in 2010 and will suppose a PTA production capacity of 700,000 metric tons, which will make the Company the leading European producer of this material.
This large project is considered strategic for Europe and of national interest for the Portuguese government.
